Imagine a clear, moonless night, the air still and calm, and the warmth of a glowing fire nearby.
But the roasted marshmallows can wait—you have an adventure to begin! Clad in a cosy wetsuit, the boards lit beneath you, you prepare to launch. As you glide out onto the lake’s glassy surface, the night sky blazes above in all its splendour. This is a moment you’ll never forget—a gentle paddle, a time for reflection, and an opportunity to soak in the majesty of the universe.
A few years ago I did a night SUP with Ed in the dark sky reserve near Dingle and it was such a brilliant session, a firm favourite for our holiday in Kerry. Recently having contacted Wild SUP Tours, Ed and Oona ran a special private tour for 7 of us on Lough Hyne in Cork to see the bioluminescence. It was another brilliant excursion! The crew are so great to deal with they made sure the weather was right for our SUP (arranged to push it back a night for the best conditions). We were able to get right up to the water surface on the SUPs and take in all the plankton glowing. No pictures we took can do it justice. Will definitely be back to the south west to SUP with them again :)
I had the most amazing experience paddle boarding with Wild SUP Tours. Both Oona and Ed are amazing hosts and guides and aid to the confidence you feel while out of the water.
I wish i had booked an extended stay in Dingle cause it would have been great to get out on the water more than once with this group.
Will definitely be back next Summer :)!
After paddling back to shore, the kettle goes on, marshmallows are roasted, and the fire warms your toes. Surrounded by a small group of fellow paddlers, you truly connect with nature, feeling a sense of belonging and peace.
